About Melissa B. Severance
Rather than staying with a favorite school of thought or therapeutic approach, Melissa strives to think through what help is needed. Inspired by Carl Rogers, she finds it easy and essential to honor the value of each human life. With inspiration and/or training in Brief/Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Depth Psychology, Dream Interpretation, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Psychodynamic, Family Systems, and Mindfulness, she serves her clients, and not her training. Her theories are tools, not idols.
Melissa is located in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and has been working to help people effect positive change since 1987. She has been working in private practice as a psychologist since 2001. She added EMDR in the 1990s, and coaching in 2009. Her current location is just a few miles from her childhood home, built largely by her parents, who are still married, and living there.
Melissa earned her degree in Counseling Psychology in 1994 from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is certified in EMDR. She has a certificate in Evidence-Based Coaching from Fielding University in Santa Barbara, California.
